Cubans not only cope, they thrive.  Legally and illegally they find ways around the formidable barriers thrown before them by meager financial resources, the absence of options, and the colossal bog of government regulations.

Through interviews and black and white photographs, my work seeks to show the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and collaborative ways by which Cubans bloom within the fences created by Cuba's political system.

Most books about Cuba have concentrated, understandably, on the exotic surface of Cuban life.  This book will dig deeper into the roots of everyday existence, revealing the myriad ways the system is worked and worked around.
